With the days starting to get longer and the weather warming up it’s just about the perfect time to revisit the classic iced coffee drink we love to drink on warm days. This time it’s made with a traditional Thai twist.
In Thailand you will see people walking around drinking this chilled coffee beverage through a straw from plastic bags. You can enjoy the drink just as much in North America from your favorite cup, mug or travel frappe mug.
In doing the research for this recipe I have learned that the key to mastering the drink is to brew your coffee stronger than you normally would. Since sweetened condensed milk is quite sweet you need the strong coffee to balance out the sweetness.
If you have 10 minutes of spare time you can serve up a delicious treat for yourself!
- 2 cups of strongly brewed gourmet coffee
- 4-6 Tbsp. sweetened condensed milk
- 1/4 cup cream or flavored coffee creamer
- Ice cubes to cool drink
Brew strong coffee and pour into a large container for mixing. Add sweetened condensed milk and stir until it dissolves in the warm coffee. Fill serving cups with ice cubes and pour coffee mixture over top. If desired, add more sweetened condensed milk to make sweeter. Add in cream to finish off drink.
Drink in a cool place or enjoy with a friend.
Note: This drink has been compared with the popular iced coffees sold in your grocery store aisles. Some suggest brewing the coffee 1.5 times as strong as usual.
